Knee Pain
What is the root cause of my knee pain?
Knee pain that comes on suddenly can be caused from various factors such as, fractures, dislocations, tendonitis, bursitis, meniscus tears, or ligament tears such sprains or tears of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL) or posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). These injuries can occur due to a direct blow, fall or twisting motion caused by high-impact sports like soccer, basketball, skiing, running or jumping.
Chronic knee pain can be the result of aging, being overweight, previous knee injuries, repetitive stress to the knee joint, overuse conditions, or arthritis. Arthritis of the knee is due to wear-and-tear, which can cause pain, stiffness and swelling.
